Types of Braces
Types of Braces

Patients now have more options when it comes to braces. While metal braces are still widely used, clear ceramic braces are becoming increasingly popular as are invisible aligners.

Fixed Appliances (Metal and Clear)

These are the most commonly used appliances in orthodontics for treating both simple and more complex problems. The brackets (metal or clear ceramics) are glued to the surfaces of the teeth. A wire runs through the brackets and is either attached with elastic ties (conventional appliances) or a built in clip (self ligating appliances).
Fixed Stainless Steel Braces Metal Braces

Mainly used for children and those undergoing treatment funded by the National Health Service (NHS). Metal braces are made of high grade stainless steel that withstands masticatory forces.
Clear Fixed Braces (Ceramics) Ceramic Braces

Ceramic braces are made of high grade polycrystalline alumina. Clear ceramic braces are usually used by adult patients and some young patients.

The Invisalign System The Invisalign System

The Invisalign System is available to adult patients and teenagers. The system consists of a series of clear overlay templates called aligners that have been generated by computer simulations to move teeth to their desired position. (For full details please visit the Invisalign web site)
The Damon System The Damon System

The Damon System uses either metal or clear braces designed to speed up tooth movement with minimum discomfort resulting in fewer treatment appointments and reduced treatment time. (For full details please visit the Damon System web site)
